Birmingham Airport
Location: Birmingham, United Kingdom
Transportation Lighting Project: Airport Illumination Enhancement
Project Information
As the third-largest airport in the United Kingdom, Birmingham Airport serves as a vital conduit to over 100 global destinations via more than 50 airlines.
A bustling gateway for around 12.7 million passengers, its reach is forecasted to expand dramatically, with projected growth of 40% and the anticipation of accommodating 18 million travelers annually by 2033.
The Challenge
Navigating the foreseeable surge in activity, Birmingham Airport confronted the formidable challenge of fortifying its lighting infrastructure to withstand relentless 24-hour operations. The ensuing solution needed to be the embodiment of high performance, minimal maintenance, and longevity.
The Ingenious NVC LED Response
Harnessing a legacy of engineering luminous excellence, NVC Lighting emerged as the partner of choice. Renowned for crafting robust, top-tier LED luminaires, NVC Lighting leveraged its professional lighting design service to digitally construct an intricate interior blueprint of the airport. This meticulous approach facilitated the identification of the optimal luminaire configuration that could aptly address the airport's multifaceted lighting requisites.
Luminaires of Choice
At the heart of this luminous transformation is the Sterling LED Panel, a paragon of efficiency and durability. Crafted with a PMMA light guide plate, this luminaire notably diminishes the risk of component degradation. The Sterling LED Panel, a masterwork of engineering, met the demanding TP(a) specification of Part B of the Building Regulations, thereby ensuring safety in the event of exposure to the fire by self-extinguishing within five seconds.
This stalwart solution was further amplified by the introduction of the Wisconsin LED downlight, an embodiment of versatility. Holding a TP(a) rating, this luminaire enables the selection of color temperature, seamlessly embracing diversity while catering to emergency scenarios through its DALI addressable or automatic self-test, DALI dimmable, and corridor function variations. The cumulative effect of these luminaires was not only aesthetic but also energy-efficient, contributing to the airport's overall sustainability.
A Radiant Transformation
Birmingham Airport's transformation encapsulates not only architectural advancement but also the nuanced finesse of intelligent lighting solutions. NVC Lighting's collaboration has paved the way for an environment that resonates with safety, efficiency, and luminous splendor, cementing Birmingham Airport's stature as a beacon of air travel excellence.
